Schlichter Team Favorites: Winter in the Colorado Rockies

As the 2022 X Games get underway today in Aspen, we asked each team member to tell us some of their favorite places and moments in the mountains!

David

Skiing or snowboarding? Skiing.

Favorite place to ski in Colorado? Anywhere where there is fresh/deep/steep powder!

Favorite place to grab a bite to eat? I love to pick up Smokin' Yards BBQ in Idaho Springs on the drive back.

Favorite mountain town in Colorado? Is every mountain town an option?! I love Telluride, Aspen, Vail, Steamboat, Winter Park, and Durango!

Music you have to listen to driving to the slopes? Anything by the Grateful Dead.

Fondest memory in the mountains? Teaching each of my kids to ski--they love it!

Tom

Skiing or snowboarding? Skiing.

Favorite place to ski in Colorado? Vail.

Best winter hike in Colorado? Anywhere with an alpine lake!

Favorite place to stay in winter in Colorado? Anywhere with a hot tub!

Best après-ski? Outer Range in Frisco.

The moment you knew that everyone would know you weren't a native? Never happened!

Something you can't live without when going to the mountains? The hot tub!

Fondest memory in the mountains? My first skiing was in winter park, a full day of bliss followed by a terrible sunburn on my face.

Jen

Skiing or snowboarding? I ski but love to après just as much!

Favorite place to ski in Colorado? Winter Park/Mary Jane.

Best winter hike in Colorado? Any hike to the hot springs!

Favorite place to grab a bite to eat? Aurum in Breckenridge- the chocolate chip cookies with Bavarian cream are to die for!

Favorite mountain town in Colorado? Crested Butte.

Something you can't live without when going to the mountains? A good playlist!

Robin

Skiing or snowboarding? I once considered myself a diehard snowboarder. I don't get out much anymore, but I basically am terrified of ever putting on skis.

Favorite place to snowboard in Colorado? Vail & Steamboat - it's a toss up.

Best winter hike in Colorado? Mount Falcon and Lair of the Bear Park. Both are fairly close to Denver, so an easy half day adventure!

Best après-ski? Maybe not for après, but a mid-day break at the "beach" at Keystone on a sunny day!

The moment you knew that everyone would know you weren't a native? When I had to relearn how to ride in powder and not the icy slopes we have on the east coast!

Lauren

Skiing or snowboarding? Après only.

Music you have to listen to driving to the slopes? Anything from my ‘Winter Mountain Drives’ playlist- The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Rayland Baxter, Fleetwood Mac, Simon & Garfunkel, Lord Huron, the list goes on!

Something you can't live without when going to the mountains? Roadside assistance on speed dial.

Favorite store in the mountains? I love Gorsuch so much and always want to buy everything!

Favorite place to grab a bite to eat? I wait patiently every year for the Après Ski pizza to make its seasonal return to Crosscut in Ned (fingerling potatoes, raclette, and bacon - heaven).
